I'm hoping that, when 8 is repealed (whether that's by CASC ruling or another amendment removing this one in two years), it'll help fight transphobia, or at least give a solid tool in that battle: there will no longer be a valid claim, "of course it mattered to me what sex/gender/etc the person was! I had to know if this romance could turn into a marriage!"
If marriage is "two people devoted to sharing their lives," rather than "a person of each of two binary genders sharing their lives," transphobia is shown to be an irrational singular neurosis, rather than "a natural reaction to the facts."
