Semi-related (RNC stuff):

Once in a while, the local media (or at least their bloggers) do me proud.

Whee-freakin' ha.

The only way municipal authorities will get the message is when they start to hear that their city's reputation for arbitrary arrest and brutality is making people (and their dollars) stay away.

OK, so aside from the McCain = Jesus thing (which is incredibly irritating but not, frankly, all that surprising coming from Huckabee), who the hell decided that we have to honor our veterans by voting them into elected office? And can we tell that to the millions of veterans getting their health benefits cut by the Bush administration? I'm sure they'd appreciate the health care that comes with a senate seat.

I mean, yea, respect veterans and all, but respect != "vote for" or even "agree with". Sheesh.

I am just too bitter about the republican party to speak this evening. Or possibly too bitter to shut up, as I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] kviri can attest.

*sigh* Nothing like the ship being halfway to the other end of the planet before I figure out that the damned thing has sailed.

Dunno about anyone else, but I'm getting whiffs of the setup Heinlein wrote about in Starship Troopers, without any of the accompanying philosophy. In case people don't know, the protagonists live in a world where only people who have served their world in the armed forces in some capacity are citizens with the vote. The point is made to the protagonist in his Social Studies classes in high school that things aren't this way because they're inherently any better than any other way, but because the system worked.

That's what that speech brings out from the depths of my brain, a resonance with that social system, but without the underlying philosophy.

Oh geez.

[livejournal.com profile] chinders and I were /just/ talking about this theme in relation to our childhood abuse and adult issues. The main idea that was ground into our heads was that we could never deserve to be loved, no matter what we did. And the second we did something wrong, it would only prove that.

Fuck. No wonder I don't/couldn't practice Christianity like the rest of my family/peers/people. That is /not/ the god I serve.

Let God Love Gene Robinson by Andrew Corsello. In the latest issue of GQ, of all things.

It's a very good antidote to this ongoing Dominionist bullshit party.

This is absolutely disgusting.

This is video of a friend of mine being tasered repeatedly while he was down on the ground and clearly not resisting. This was several days ago and I still haven't heard anything about his release (even though by law they can only hold someone 36 hours without charges), but that he still has copper from the taser barbs still stuck in his hip.

Blackwater's now on the streets in the Twin Cities.
*That's* what we'll have for the next four years if McCain's elected.

Apparently he was detained for 40 hours, but fortunately he's back out now. Again, I'm just sickened that something like this happened in gross violation of the Bill of Rights.
