What the hell. A meme.
Gotten from
wcg and
browngirl.
Name a song that. . .
Reminds you of an ex
Boston's "Amanda" reminds me of Eric. It's weird to see a song happen.
"I'm Just a Girl" by No Doubt reminds me of Chay.
makes you cry
Not really. The closest combination is probably the combination of Alphaville's "Forever Young" followed with Don MacLean's "American Pie." Come to think of it, Forever Young also qualifies for 'reminds you of an ex'. It's also a song that I'm highly intolerant of anyone speaking during.
reminds you of high school
"Losing My Religion", REM, and "Something to Talk About", Bonnie Raitt. Which are the songs that got me listening to stuff released more recently than about 1975.
reminds you of childhood
"If I Had Wings," Peter, Paul, and Mary.
reminds you of junior high
"Blackbird," the Beatles.
mirrors true life a little too closely
Heh -- bad question. I'm the chick with the multi-disc CD changer with the sick sense of humor, remember?
makes you laugh
Probably one of Sasha's treatments of "Barrett's Privateers", actually, from when he and
erispope and I were hiking back from looking at a museum in Swansea.
will always get you up to dance
The entire Walk On album by Boston.
Also "Bizarre Love Triangle," New Order, even though I have no boxer shorts.
you used to hate but now love
Dunno. I may have gotten to a point of tolerating some of Kevin's girly music, though.
you love but wouldn't know about if not for a friend
keshwyn introduced me to the Indigo Girls, Abba, and Cirque du Soleil. Bigsis introduced me to Savatage by way of "Chance", and I spread the meme most vigorously indeed.
you like from your parents' record collection
Heh -- my musical tastes were very much in keeping with the record collection all along. If you go to what Dad had on reel-to-reel, though, my favorite off there would definitely be Wachet Auf, J. S. Bach.
makes you think of sex
I shan't go on about my ongoing sexual relationship with certain music in my livejournal, nuh-uh. Though
brooksmoses has pointed out that Tom Scholz has a degree in mechanical engineering from MIT by way of explanation of some of it.
is your anthem
Which me?
Hmm. I'll pick. . . This Song Has No Title.
is your ultimate love song
Heh. I'm not sure what that means, let alone how to answer it.
Kevin's and my song is "Always", by Erasure, though.
I think I'll decide, at least for the moment, that the song that describes how I feel about
brooksmoses shall be Fleetwood Mac's "Temporary One".
reminds you of a breakup
There have been some, but I don't think I can bring any to mind at the moment.
makes you think of your friends
I don't really have general associations; specific ones, yes, but not general.
is held between you and a specific friend
That's more a radio station than a /song/ . . .
would be your choice for a National Anthem
Better asked of someone who groks patriotism.
would be your choice for a planetary anthem
Nations are too big for me to conceptualize, don't get me started on planets.
that you can't sing because you're crying
N/A.
that you can't sing because you can't pronounce
Possibly some of the Mozart I've tried to learn in the past. :}
that makes you want to go to war
Personal war? "The Unforgiven", Metallica. Which is one of mine. Social war? "Hell is for Children", Pat Benatar. Might be others, that's what I can think of off top of head.
that makes you want to stop a war, any war
"Where Have All The Flowers Gone" Probably done by a bunch of people over time. A lot of protest rock is like that for me, though. You want to end the war and stuff, you gotta sing loud.
that changed your life in some pragmatic way
"On My Own" from Les Miserables was the first song I performed independently of a chorus; it wasn't a solo, I arranged it for two singers and piano. "If I Had Wings" kept me sane for a long, long time.
that you gave someone else, and it took root
I've gotten people hooked on Savatage, and
brooksmoses on Rush, if I do remember correctly. :}
